Louisville City returns home to Lynn Family Stadium after a two-game road trip resulting in four points. Coming off a midweek win against Sporting KC 2, LouCity will once again take on the OKC Energy. These two squared off earlier this month and the result was favorable to Morados; a 3-1 win and Joshua Wynder’s debut. So, how has the Energy faired since the last encounter? Have the Energy sorted out their problems to make this a more competitive match or can we expect another beat down?
Since the 07/14 match, OKC secured a win against Tulsa and a draw against SKC. Not exactly top-tier opposition, but points are points and any momentum is good. Their attack is still subpar; 30th in goals per match, 26th for big chances created, and 24th for shots on target per match. Defensively, a bit better; 9th for conceded goals per match and fourth for clan sheets. FiveThirtyEight is only giving them a 21% chance to make the playoffs, so a big win against Louisville could go a long way for them. As for this showdown in Kentucky, their betting odds are abysmal and FiveThirtyEight isn’t much more confident with just a 14% chance for the away team to leave with three points.
Villyan Bijev and Robert Coronado are the two to watch. Bijev has been their lifeline and leads the squad in goals (five) and assists (three) and has the third-best average player rating at 7.11. Coronado has the second most assists with two and leads the team with an average player rating of 7.46. Aside from them and Frank López and Conor Donovan, who have three and two goals respectively, no one else is lighting up the stat sheet.
To quote the previous LOUvOKC match preview, “They may not be the most intimidating team on paper, but anyone can win on any given day.” So long as the boys and purple keep their focus, there is no reason for them to not secure another win. There have been bumps in the road this season, but all in all they have been trending just fine. Should the team keep up their form, silverware could be in their future! Cya all at the March To The Match!
