The rich get richer as Louisville City triggers the release clause for FC Tulsa’s Phillip Goodrum (Twitter/Instagram), first reported by Tyler Greever of WDRB. Goodrum, once a thorn in in LouCity’s side, joins the team late into the season right before the all-important Fill The Fam match against the Charleston Battery.
The 27-year-old Nashville native spent much of his early career playing for teams in the Carolina's; Carolina Rapids from 2014-2016 and UNC Wilmington from 2016-2019. He also has stints with the North Carolina Fusion U23s and Wilmington Hammerheads of the PDL. Goodrum went on to be drafted 75th overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft to Atlanta United where he began his USL career via Atlanta United 2. He signed for Memphis 901 in 2022 where he set the franchise record of 23 goals that same year. His relationship with the club soured after he was denied opportunities to play in the MLS/Europe. “I had opportunities to go into Major League Soccer and go on to Europe this off-season, and the club held me back from that,” Goodrum said back in March 2023. “So I’d be lying to you if I said I wasn’t devastated to be back here.” This paved the way for his move to Tulsa in May 2023.
What a steal for Louisville. Turning a foe into a friend. Goodrum is a top-quality striker who gives Coach Danny Cruz even more options as the team heads into the latter stretches of the regular season. He is friends with Aiden McFadden, who he overlapped with at ALT2, so one could imagine that helped Goodrum with the decision to move to Louisville. While his goal-scoring tally has cooled off following his big 2022 campaign with 901, he will likely benefit from the quality surrounding him at LouCity. Welcome to the good side, Phillip!
