Only a few days after the announcement of former SKC player, Amadou Dia, Enoch Mushagalusa has been announced as the latest to trade in the powdered blue for purple. Mushagalusa, who goes by Matiti, was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and was raised in Denver, CO. He began his career in the Colorado Rapids system before going pro in 2020. His inaugural season with Sporting KC 2 ended with one goal, one assist in 6 starts, and 11 total appearances. Last season was his breakout. He scored a team-leading 8 goals and 4 assists (2nd most on the squad) in 28 starts and 32 total appearances. One of Matiti's goals was against Louisville during the 4-3 thriller at Lynn Family Stadium. He also led in possession won in the final third, had the 2nd most big chances created, and 2nd highest player rating. At only 22 years old, he is quite the promising player. He managed to have a great campaign despite being on a substandard side. Matiti is exactly the profile the team should be securing for the long term.
“We’ve seen firsthand Matiti’s abilities the last couple of years,” said Coach Danny Cruz. “We are getting a player that is extremely dangerous in the final third, relentless in his ability to attack the opponent and has proven that he can be a threat in this league. After talking with Matiti, it was clear to us that we are bringing in another player that we know will fit the culture and has the drive to want to succeed. We are looking forward to getting him here and integrated with the group.”
“Whenever I watch Brian Ownby play with the freedom he has and the talent, I think that fits my style,” Mushagalusa said of joining LouCity. “The club has top players, a top coach, and I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans. I want to come in and make an impact. To think that I could be on the left flank, Ownby on the right and Cameron Lancaster in the middle, that’s one crazy attack.”
